2.5 Million Honda and Acura Vehicles Recalled Because of Fuel Pump Issues
American Honda Motor Company is recalling more than two and a half million cars, minivans, SUVs and trucks from its Acura and Honda brands based on concerns about early fuel pump failure. If the pumps fail to work properly, the engine may not start or might stall while you're driving, something we are very concerned about at Clinton Acura in Clinton, NJ. The list includes 2018 to 2020 Acura ILX, MDX, MDX Sport Hybrid models along with RDX, RLX and TLX vehicles. Also included are the 2017 to 2020 Acura NSX models in what is an expansion of a previous recall.
What kind of problems should I look for in my Acura?
The problem is caused by an improperly molded internal component in the fuel pump that can become deformed over time. You might see a warning light in the instrument panel or notice an intermittent loss of your Acura's power. You might also have difficulty starting your Acura or you might observe the Acura stalling. If the fuel pump stops working when your Acura is on the road around Bridgewater, there's an increase risk of a crash or an injury. Honda has also initiated a related recall on Honda and Acura models in China and Japan.
How is Honda is handling the Acura recall problem?
Acura owners will be notified by mail beginning in February of 2024. Clinton Acura will be happy to replace the fuel pump with an upgraded version free of charge once the right parts become available. Acura owners who have had this condition repaired in the past will be eligible for reimbursement. Honda reports more than 4,000 warranty claims but the carmaker is not aware of any Acura crashes or injuries that are related to this problem.
How can I get more information on the Acura recall?

Is the Acura recall process being handled in stages?
Yes, Honda has announced that countermeasure replacement parts simply aren't available in high enough quantities for every recalled vehicle to be fixed at the time of their announcement. That's why American Honda will be notifying Acura vehicle owners in stages. Once the proper replacement parts are available, Honda will replace all defective fuel pumps for every vehicle at no cost to the owner.
What's another way to find out if my Acura is being recalled?
You can go to the NHTSA's website and plug in your Acura's 17-digit vehicle identification number. If a recall doesn't appear, it means your Acura doesn't currently have any open recalls. However, since automakers issue recalls often and for many older vehicles, we strongly encourage you to check back at the same NHTSA website regularly to find out whether your Acura has had a recall notice issued.
Is there also an issue regarding Honda and Acura seat belts?
Yes, American Honda Motor Company has announced that there's a recall regarding seat belts that can potentially affect more than 300,000 Honda and Acura SUVs. Once again, Honda has stated that it will send Acura and Honda owners a physical letter inviting them to bring their recalled vehicle into a dealership like ours to get an improved replacement part.
